P. W. Hay was a painter of landscape, portrait, figure and still life. He exhibited widely, including 27 paintings at the Royal Scottish Academy, 33 at the Glasgow Institute, 64 at the Royal Academy, and 136 at the Royal Watercolor Society.

Watercolors by this artist usually sell at auction for a low to mid hundred dollar figure. This example is exceptional and would be expected to sell in the high hundreds in a good British art auction. It was purchased from another gallery in 2007 and subsequently re-framed. The painting was dropped sustaining a “ding” on the top of the frame but not affecting the watercolor. The price before the frame damage was $995.

Also by this artist:

Romance – Oil on canvas, Danum Gallery, Library and Museum
The Springtime of Life, 1938 – Oil on canvas
Buckingham Palace, London – Watercolor
Still life of fruit – Watercolor
