Henderson Tarbet was a prolific Edinburgh painter of landscapes, mountain, loch and moorland in oil and watercolor. He exhibited at RSA, RA, RHA and RGI and was an active member of the Scottish Art Club. source – The Dictionary of Scottish Painters 1600 – 1960. Examples of this artist’s work are exhibited in at least two British museums.

Note: Both watercolors were photographed under glass and do not adequately depict the masterly contrast of color and light the artist captured in these superb examples of his work. Light reflections from the glass are particularly noticeable in Sheep in Highland landscape. The framed image of Highland Croft is the most accurate depiction of that watercolor.

Auction estimates for this artist are typically in the $400 – $1200 range and the auction record is $7,277. While Henderson Tarbet was primarily a watercolorist, his oils were equally proficient and the prices significantly higher than his watercolors which are generally of smaller dimensions.
